Tomatoes - white specks

I have a different question about tomatoes...

I have these teeny, white specks that appear all over the soil around my
tomato plants (they are in containers). Is it residue from the plant itself,
or some insect/ disease perhaps? Are they harmful?

If they were rotten on the blossom end then they have blossom end rot
which is caused by uneven watering and/or calcium deficiency.  There
are calcium products that you can spray on the tomato foliage that are
absorbed very quickly.
