Pantyhose?

I'm truly an ametuer gardener and have gotten that
squash vine bore for a couple years now. I'd love to prevent it this year
as my squash is actually looking pretty good (although I, too, have way more
male than female flowers). I don't quite understand what exactly you mean
when you say wrap the stems with pantyhose. I have tons of stems. Do
I wrap each one? Do I go around the whole plant with one wrap? Am I
as stupid as I think I am? Please advise.
