I went to last year's tasting and was pretty disappointed. At 2 PM on the
Saturday they held it at the Beltsville (main) facility, Behnke's offered
only 7 different tomatoes. Brandywine and Cherokee Purple were the only
heirlooms; all the rest were ho-hum hybrids.
I was hoping for at least 20 different kinds (since they sell at least that
many) so I could try lots I hadn't been exposed to before. Didn't work out
that way.
Although I will say that Brandywine was head and shoulders above the other 6
on the table!
This is a good idea for an event, though, and Behnke's remains my fave
nursery in the area.
