Re: fertilizers -- i'm confused!


The statements made by Janet and Gorden are right on. I have been a
farmer for over 20 years and have known many who were in the busines of
selling produce to the stores. The only goal was to raise what will
"sell". The store manager as well cares only about what will sell. This
means what "looks" good. To the unsuspecting non agriarian
hunter-gatherer this means that produce which has no bug holes in it
never suspecting that the reason no holes are present is that the bugs
were killed with pesticides which many times are still on the beutiful
produce. (withdrawal times for the safe use of chemical redemies are not
followed in many cases by those striving for vegetable beauty).

I think of this whenever I hear the advice given to others to buy from the
store those items which are cheap and in good supply. The trade off might
not be as cheap as it might appear.
