There is practically no way not to introduce salt into your soil along with
the seashells. Salinity is a major problem for many gardeners, since most
plants are highly intolerant of high salt levels (including the salts that
accumulate from overuse of  inorganic chemical fertilizers). This is why
sand from the beach is not used as a soil amendment.

Is your soil based on limestone or other calcium-based rock? If so, the last
thing you need is the additional calcium of seashells, and more salts to
leach out of your soil.
