dumb vitamin question

This is really a stupid question, but I was about to take a multi vitamin 
this morning, and realized the bottle had expired in 1997. Doubt if it 
would hurt me to take em, but had rather just go get fresh. But I was 
wondering if any harm in using these in the compost? Or, elsewhere in the 
garden? (I remember awhile back the kick was to use birth control pills as 
rooting stimulant.. I think the only benefit was more babies that year!)
