Both high and low bush cranberries, Fireweed, Raspberries,
Fiddlehead Ferns just to name a few. We also have lot's of
wild mushrooms, but some are poisonous so you have to be really
careful.
There are many medicinal wild plants and a terrific book
is, "Alaska's Wilderness Medicines" by Eleanor Viereck.
I've had the most success with strawberries, zucchini,
lettuce and various herb's. I'm doing an experiment in
my greenhouse to see which variety of tomato works best.
I planted 5 different varieties and so far the cherry tomato
is the hands down winner as far as germination.
I'm going to experiment with a double green house kind of
thing in one of my raised bed's once these plants are
bigger. I am going to make each plant it's own little
green house and then make a second greenhouse to enclose
the whole bed. During the warm days I will uncover the
individual plants and open the sides on the secondary
greenhouse so that pollination can take place.
If I have success I'll let you all know.
We have about a 90 day outdoor growing period here and we're
on day 7 of it. It's not uncommon for me to be in my garden
at midnight during the month of June.
