Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Richard,
I just started using 2-hole cinderblocks this
year. They do take a lot of dirt! I think I used 2 large bags of
Hyponex potting mix from K-Mart to fill 13 of them. (Just didn't have the
time or patience to sift that much compost--often I mix compost and perlite half
and half for container plants.) I have sweet alyssum and short marigolds
in them. I figured the alyssum might attract some beneficials and the
marigolds might repel some pests, but who knows? I'm interested to hear
what else people are growing in them, that I might try next year.
I have herbs in chimney blocks, which are large and square and
have one center hole thats a little larger than cinderblock holes. They
seem to be doing well and most would probably have enough room in a cinderblock
hole. Except maybe sage. Mine is 3 feet high, which makes it kind of
top-heavy.
