In these parts the consensus seems to be that the best thing to do with a
Japanese beetle trap is to give it to your neighbor.
It will attract beetles all right, but more than half of them end up feeding on
your plants.
Japanese beetles avoid attack by falling down from whereever they are. So all
you have to do is hold a pan of soapy water below the plant and brush the plant
with your hand. The beetles (most of them) will fall into the water.
