Where in Michigan are you?  We are in Petoskey and you are right, this
weather is GORGEOUS!  It is so warm right now, I have been really tempted
to start some of the cool weather crops.  I'm sure as soon as I did, and
got something to sprout it would SNOW or FREEZE and kill it!  If I don't
then we will surely have an early spring/summer...  (So much for in the
season/weather predicting capabilities of the groundhog!!)  such a dilemma!

Zone 5 , but normally a short growing season, though maybe not this year!

PS, on the matter of the stump, I'd think you could just toss the bits that
you chopped loose into the compost pile, without any problems.  That's the
way it's done in the forests.  Those centipedes and millipedes are part of
the whole process!
