Hi, Rachel -- Welcome to the list.
In addition to all the other good advice you're getting, do be sure to get
a soil test done (about $3 or $5 from your County Extension Agent -- look
in the county government listings), so you know whether or not you need to
adjust for pH (and how to do it) and whether or not other soil amendments
related to fertility are in order.
