A June Bug???! Great Googledey Moogledey!

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

June bugs, and japanese beetles, both produce similar larvae in turf and
garden soils, known sort of loosely as 'white grubs' (there are several
species of June bugs).

If you actually observe that your turf or garden is suffering and feel the
'white grubs' are the cause, there are many things to do before heading for
the evil poison bottle.

Heavy spike aeration of the lawn will kill about 50% of them. You can follow
this up with either Milky Spore (aka Doom), a bacterial disease that will
last up to 20 years in your soil, killing off the evil 'white grubs'.

A shorter term but faster acting biological control are the insecticidal
nematodes. They can be obtained from several web and mail order sources, and
many garden centers have order forms for them, also.

Spiking before applying the milky spore or nematodes will help them
penetrate into the turf better.

Finally, consider tolerance. Healthy turf can withstand up to ten grubs per
square foot, and if they are not present in your garden in large numbers,
they are unlikely to be a serious problem, perhaps offering something in
exchange for your soil organic matter in the form of aeration activity.

And, they are nifty big beetles! Part of the Greatest Show on Earth....Life!
