Cucumber is a cucurbit but is Cucumis sativus
where as melon albeit a cucurbit is Cucumis melo
I grow melons and cucumbers at the same time.
I think if you want to play it safe don't save the seeds.
But the first year you have seed from different parents.
So it stands to reason your fruit will be fine.
Hmmmm I never saved seed from cucumbers from year to year but had planned

Now you have made me think (c: will I get a melumber or a cumelon??
yikes
