Keeping critters away

Recommendations on keeping critters away that I have seen include 1) Mel's
square foot cages, 2) floating row covers either flat on the plants or
supported somehow, and 3) cloches made from plastic milk cartons.

Any thoughts on what will work best on my square foot garden in raised beds
that are 4 x 10 feet?
