Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Katherine,
When I first started using the square foot system, 'many moons ago', I
tried to be precise and marked the squares like in the book. I tried all kind
of strings and wires, but after a season or two I discovered that marking the
squares was not really required to grow plants and was, in MHO, a waste of
time. Eyeballing is close enough. I do, when constructing a new box, drive a
nail or tack into the sides at 1 foot intervals to use as a rough guide. I
have found to be most useful some 1 foot square plywood guides, which I made
as per the book, in which I drilled holes for the various planting layouts.
That way I can just laydown the plywood, shove my finger or a stick through
the layout holes and upon removing the plywood have the planting holes ready
for seeds. Even just pressing on the plywood will give you a quick outline of
the square. sorry to ramble on but your query brought back old memories.
Good growin' to u,
Gary /East TN 7A
>>I notice in Mel's book that his squares are marked with what looks like
white wires, but he never really says (at least not that I found).
Do any of you mark out your squares? What do you use? Why do you do it or
not do it?<<
