***Frank, only for you and a few others and this subject matter do I bother to
quarenteen and port attatchments to a secure location in which to open them.
Just too much bother on a routine basis. Only a virus would be worse.
>Since Bill said, somewhat naively IMHO, "Then I go for $1 / 1 cu ft bag of
cheap, weak, Earth-Gro manure compost ("High Quality Bio-Solids," yes I know
what it is and it is tested by law.) ", I thought those of us with some
questions about this stuff might look at *why* the critics of it are not happy
as pigs in....you know....:-)

WASHINGTON, DC, March 22, 2000 (ENS) - Members of the House Science
Committee blasted the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today for
inappropriate responses to citizens and scientists who voiced concern over the
use of sewage sludge as fertilizer on farmlands.

***What? No confidence in the folks who brought you Waco? Watergate? New
Year's Eve Court-Declared Unconstitutional "but overriding interest" Roadside
Spotchecks? And, "Hey... It wasn't really 'sex...'"
I agree, basically... except for the "somewhat naively" point. You have
insufficient data to accurrately formulate a well considered opinion there,
Imo. LOL (And I am an EPA insider too. And Waste Water Treatment/Composting
Engineer. Mixed industrial Combined treatment... Yes, there is copper, etc.
in some of this stuff. State limits, could always be improved. It is tested,
here, quarterly, and aged a year.)
But I take your point. Good to spread the word, as well as the "stuff."
Some of the points there are valid. But also, 'dilution" is not taken into
account. This is not used, 100%. Much of these toxic elements exist anyway,
to a degree. We don't travel to the moon and bring them back. (OK, we don't
farm in mercury mines either.) Many of these elements cannot travel up the
hystemic (sp?) system of a plant's structure. Different states have
diffferent sewage regs...
and different regs onto what it may be applied, and how.
Many [very] learned folks strike THIS compromise...
Don't use it for carrots, and tubers, et al.
Don't splash when you water it. Wash the food.
I do use it tho'... But then, I also drive a car sometimes.
I pollute. Then I turn around and breathe the darn stuff.
I biked 5 miles to work, rain or no, except sometimes...
Choose YOUR personal/family level of caution/exposure.

Take a gander at THIS! You won't even go to the grocery...
(And per your EPA info, note that a lotta this stuff binds to fat...
dairy, meat, and yours.)

Take a look!!!
