Bill -- fascinating about the concrete sidewalks. Dontcha wish you knew
which sign was the right one? 

I've also heard that if you're digging post holes, you'll not have enough
dirt to fill the hole or too much, depending on whether the moon is waxing
or waning. (More on that in a minute.)

Another book is "Raising with the Moon" by Jack R. Pyle and Taylor Reese.
This one also goes into such things as canning, slaughtering, dehorning,
castrating. It's good. 
Here's their take on the post hole digging I mentioned:

Moon (when digging will actually be easier), but wait to set your posts in
the dark of the Moon. You will be rewarded with easier digging and a post
that is firmly embedded. Now, reverse this procedure with another post. Dig

the two posts. The latter will have been harder to dig and the post will be
less firmly embedded.

dirt and then try to refill that hole in the dark of the Moon, you will

Moon, and you will not have enough dirt to refill it. The reasons for this
are exactly as has been cited several times in several ways: New Moon to
Full Moon is a time of growing energy, of expansion; Full Moon to the next
New Moon is a time of declining energy and contraction.<<
