>Ah, well, BIll, you and I have different ideas of what's OT. And that's
fine.

>To my way of thinking, the purist approach (yours?) would limit the list to
discussing sq. ft. spacing, Mel's suggestions for amending the soil and
building the beds (including raised, tho he doesn't specificaly go into
that IIRC), and whatever else Mel specifically said in one of his books or
elsewhere.

>I think Mel's really done terrific work (and I'm grateful to him), but as
others have pointed out, he didn't invent intensive gardening. Or growing
vegetables.

>To me, if it's about vegetable gardening, it's not OT.

*I introduced a Solar Heat collector idea On Aquaponics to heat teh fish water
and save cost. It was sorta part of the system, but not purist. A couple
complained. A couple loved it. Many were silent. I feel it's sorta like
dropping yer drawers (as an extreme example,) at a party... If just 2 are
offended, do it, but go around the corner maybe...?

>I don't understand why people can't just DELETE topics that are of no
interest to them. Of course, it helps a great deal if others cooperate by
appropriately changing the subject line as a topic drifts, and not everyone is
courteous enough (or remembers) to do that.

*Yeah, That's how I feel too. I hate so darm uch OT on Garentalk, but there
OT is in the 'bylaws." And if you have a garden or Mother-In-Law question,
they dig deep. But this conversation I raise there too. We lose VERY good
folks there due to the volume of Non-garden. Some I invite, but do warn. OT
is extreme there. Here, there are 300+, and we have benn asked to limit OT.
And as we notice, Changing the subject line is not done on a reliable basis.
(We all for get, don't we, now and then.)

>As for me, I've spent entirely too much time being entirely too chatty
on this list over the past while, and I think it's time to leave. I've
thoroughly enjoyed the list, learned a lot, and wish everyone great
gardening.

>Best,
Patricia
P.S. Thanks for the invite to your OT list, Bill, but I think I'll pass.

*Too chatty? If so, at least YOU have really earned it. But I have been
feeling that way too in a way. 300+ folks and I feel maybe 50 post and it's
not very regular with many. It is work (especially for a non typist as I) to
look up or regugitate a page of data or info. i would love to see more folks
dig in and read up and respond. I feel sorry for folks when they have a
question and noone answers for a long time. In todays society, that's hours,
maybe a day.

I am especially sorry to have this arrive on a day I got a compliment for
services rendered here (off post.) I responded privately in return. This
List will be far less with Patricia gone. I have enjoyed giving and getting
here. But we seem to scratch the surface. Other projects loom imminently on
the horizon.

As a "purist," I am somewhat uncomfortable staying On Topic, when others
stray, or straying, when others object. If we are to ok OT or NOT, but to
straddle the fence is tough. I do that poorly I admit. I like clarity of
rule, and reason or vote behind it. I am uncomfortable when I make others
uncomfortable. I feel being on a List is a privelege and a great
responsibility. I fall short of the mark. Maybe I am not alone, but I wish
to try, and see a no win situation for me at this time. With viruses and
attachments and no clear Subject, no Digest mode yet, I may miss the one
really content rich (to me) post that day.

I cannot seem to find balance in this rocky boat either. I get little from
short posts. Moderator dislikes long ones, Off Topic, On topic, Erroneous
Topic. And my world famous browser, draws the ire of one (known,) unless I
manually edit, so they may follow a thread easier, which with Topics so
misleading, I find very curious. I try to be tuff, but I am sensitive, as the
Farmer is, and could not get past the very first word in the letter send from
him or her. I hear they call it Post Tramatic Stress syndrome. I just
figured I was raised by folks so nice, I just wasn't prepared for some of what
is said to others.

I am very sorry about Patricia. She may have lasted a few more months here.
Whether to blame or not, I am obviously the trigger. I tend to choose Lists
carefully. I need to learn to let go. I am not good at failure, or
"qualified successes."

If I may beof service somehow, or suggest a specialized List, ring me up.

Enjoy, and amend.
