I just visited an organization in Florida (ECHO) that teaches apprentices
about various farming methods for their work in third world countries. On
the tour, one type of grass was mentioned as being used for erosion control.
My notes are a bit sloppy to read, but it's something like "Vetiveria
zizanioire."
You also might want to consider building terrace-type garden beds, if your
land slopes that much.
