I prefer planting taters in soil, in rows. FWIW is "for what it's worth" 
and "YMMV" is "your mileage may vary" (you may get different results).  If 
you do plant potatoes in a cage of some sort, be sure you're able to get 
adequate water to them.  Margaret L
