I asked Andreas,
>>Do the Swiss and German windowbox geraniums come from normal
>>in-the-garden varieties, or is there a special hybrid for them?
And he replied,
>I don't know exactly; but I can tell you the names of the varieties used:
>Selma-Balkon F1
>Mausers Rote
>Summer Showers F1
>Playboy F1
And I say, "bad news." Other than knowing the name of the *first*
seed-propagated geranium in this country ('Nittany Lion,' hybridized at Penn
State University), I do not claim much mastery of the Pelargonium crowd.
However, I do not recognize even one of these European variety names.
However, I have just sown 48 eensy-weensy seeds of 'Balcony Petunia' from
Heirloom Gardens (Lancaster, Pennsylvania), and I'm hoping they live up to
the hint in their name.
If any Square Footers have seen any of the geranium varieties Andreas
mentioned above in commerce in the United States, please share the
availability info with the list at once.
Thanks in advance--Janet
