There has been quite a lot of discussion recently about the benefits of or lack of benefits of bone meal. In New Zealand we are able to purchase a product called "Blood & Bone" a by-product of the animal slaughter industry. As the name suggests this is a combination of blood and other protein discards and ground up bone. This is relatively cheap but seems to take a while to release its full benefit in the ground, there seems to be quite a delay before the plants respond but respond they do. I suspect it is the blood faction that breaks down first and makes available a significant amount of N. I use it in my compost tumbler, on my lawns and in the vege garden. As someone has already said potatoes seem to respond well to a helping of this organic fertiliser. And right off subject for which I apologise but I need this information rather urgently and don't now how to find it, I'm very much an Internet newbie. Can anyone tell me (privately if you prefer & that may be best) the area that "concentric.net" serves. I am getting mailings from some one using that server purporting to be in Canada. My limited knowledge leads me to believe that if it is in Canada it should be "concentric.net.ca" TIA -- Jim Greene, Paisley Place, Roxburgh 9156, New Zealand.
