In a message dated 97-03-13 15:26:35 EST, you write:
<< The best part is that next fall you cut away the vines and strings,
unscrew
the connections and store your sturdy, rust-proof, rot-proof tomato trellis
for next Spring -- using much less room that cages.
Has anyone else tried this?

I used electrical conduit which is about 1/2". It was much less than using
the threaded stuff. At my local hardware store I bought five 10 foot pieces
and four L pieces. I cut one of the 10 foot lengths into two 4 1/2 foot
length pieces. This gave me two vertical supports. I put them into the ground
two feet deep and I ended up with 8 foot supports which I ran string down.
Mel describes this entire procedure in his book. Works well!
