I'm planning to redesign my square foot garden from 8 4X4 foot beds made from 2X6 lumber (which has rotted out) to concrete blocks which are 8"X8"X16" and cost $1.67 each. These blocks are the type that are rough cut and colored. One bed will be L shaped roughly 36' X 4' in each direction and three other beds with 4' X 24' interior dimensions. I'm not going with wood because while it may last a number of years, it won't last as long as the block. Also, you never really know what's in that wood or how it was treated. The place I'm getting the block from makes it on site. I'm in Bethlehem PA Zone 6. I think concrete block is relatively inexpensive in my area. I'll attach some before after pictures to a follow up message after I do this project next weekend. AG
