This is not true I'm afraid, steaming will *not* destroy the BSE
prion (if that is what it is). All bonemeal sold in the UK is heat
treated, but this will not destroy BSE. I have read that it takes
850 degrees Centrigrade to destroy the prions and if bonemeal were
heated to that temperature you would have only ash. In the UK
infected bovine carcasses are planned for incineration in electricity
generating stations because of the heat required. If bonemeal is
infectious then dried blood probably will be too.
