Carrots

Hi,
Well I just came in from my garden and am a little disappointed.
Since
I use a raised bed I planted the short Nantes Carrots. They sprouted
about Jan 10 and here it is a full 90 days later and they are Too Short!
Although full size in circumference they are only about 2" long! They
seemed to be growing well and got a steady water source (soaker tubing
on a timer). I normally use the square foot planting method but for
these seed, since I spilled them in the dirt, I used a scatter then
thinned to about 16/sq ft.
The question is, I think that the seeds are good but the fact
that they
grew for a while so close together stunted them. Has anyone had this
happen?
I have three other patches (staggered each month) that I did
plant
properly, and I'm hoping that they are going to end up longer. But if
it's the seed I want to dig them up and start some new seed.
        Thanks for any help,
Bill (Gardening in the Rain (finally!)) DeWitt
