For canning/freezing and everyday eating purposes for my family of 6, I
plant a  3x4 of each, yellow & green... 9 plants per foot ... But I do have
a large enough garden (25 4x4's) that I can rotate squares each season to
minimize pest damage ... I started with a full 4x4 of each but produced more
than was consumable in a year so reduced it to 3x4, never had trouble with
local pests or soil borne ones to date.
