giant spinach?

i'd love some help from all of you experienced spinach growers...

several years ago a friend gave me some of her spinach crop, and the leaves
were HUMONGOUS!  if my memory serves me right, we're talking as big as swiss
chard leaves, yet the plant was very tender once cooked.  i'd love to get the
name of the variety or similar varieties.  any ideas?
