OK - you've all convinced me to go the sqft method with my veggies . . . I have very little sunny room [biiiiig trees on the south side of the yard] in my all organic perrenial bed [about ten feet wide and 70 feet long but filled with flowers!] so I'm planning to make a few raised beds this weekend [if the snow EVER stops - my garden is currently full of soda bottles covering the new plants!] that fit into the nooks and crannies - is there a problem if I tweak the measurements of the beds? I was planning to make a few - I can probably fit one 4X4 with the rose bushes but for the rest I thought maybe 2x2 or 2x3 - is there any reason these would be unworkable? And regarding the soil - I have sandy soil well amended with peat and some compose - but would it really be good to use ALL compost to fill the raised beds? Thanks in advance and for all the great discussion on this list! Anxiously awaiting your advice - Cherie in snowy NYC
