Re: Harvest

Yes- Bill- I also enjoyed your post- salivated is more like it. I am in
Massachusetts, and we are having bitter cold temps this week. My garlic
started popping up in the warm weather last week, and I'm sure it's
regretting it now. The snow is almost melted off of my mountain garden,
and we are hoping to put peas in soon. I have planted about 100 various
seeds- all heirlooms this year- and I'm waiting eagerly for them to show
their first bit of green pushing through the starter mix.

I used to dislike this muddy, cold, wet time of year. Now I love it as
much as the rest of the year- appreciating the unlocking of nature- the
waking up- the promise that spring is around the corner- the attempts of
winter to hang on by usually giving us a whopper of a spring storm and then
melting away in a week under the growing sun. I feel like we are stomping
around at the starting gate- ready for the earth to be warm enough to work
without freezing our hands. In only a month, the neighbors and I will
start popping up outside in our gardens again- having seen each other only
during occasional snowstorms when we had to shovel. It will be a joyous
reunion- neighbor to neighbor and hands to earth.

Thanks for giving us inspiration. I feel warmer just having read your
post. hungry too.
