seedling disappointment

I planted some elderly tomato seed (Principe Borsche drying tomatoes), and
another kind I forget off hand, Traveller? Plus some Doreen so generously
gave me. the Black Knight I was very proud to receive as well as the New
Zealanders.
They all popped up out of the soil very quickly, and were growing like mad
in the little 6 packs. But, when I'd think i needed to transplant them to a
larger container, I noticed no roots much. They were getting pencil thin and
spindly tho getting adequate sunlight.
this weekend I discovered a CAT was using the flat as a sleeping platform
and squashing the seedlings down. I promptly dug the tops and what roots as
had made and planted the whole flat outside this past Sunday. If they were
that valiant, as to keep trying to leaf out and grow even under a 15 lb cat,
I have to congratulate them! They look MUCH happier outside.
My little fig trees are starting to sprout, and one of the pecan trees has
started budding. The old pig nut pecans are still holding off, they're
usually the indicator that we won't have any more cold weather.
