I grow strawberries in 1/2 barrel planters.  I plant them in a honeycomb
layout, with about 6 inches per plant, thus about 16 plants per barrel.  I
believe I found this spacing when reading about the French Intensive
planting method (which is closely related to Square Foot gardening).
