Square Foot Gardening List - http://myweb.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Hi everyone--- How's this for weird---- Here in
Sacramento Ca -we have 76 degrees and 46(!)mph winds that are tearing trees out
of the ground and pulling row covers off the farmer's crops- breaking windows
and causing yet more power outages--all while the beautiful sun shines!!!!!! I
felt like Dorothy in the wizard of Oz last night in my Mobile home- We had no
warning- this storm just hit in the middle of the night- my patio umbrella
jumped the fence and wound up in the canal and half of my patio plants came
crashing down off their pedestals- my trellis in my beds held but my plants were
ripped to sheds- the roof of my rusty little storage shed came loose and is
sitting askew waiting to fly away- it is anchored down with concrete pavers
right now- the ladder I was using to work on the gutter with- wound up halfway
across the yard and half of the fiberglass panels on my carport are loose and
flapping. Needless to say all of the lovely spring growth of vines and
roses and flowers are in bad shape- The oak and pine tree lost tons
of small branches and I am just sick!
I know I am very fortunate that no major
damage happened and that I can replant all the veggies and that most of the
flowers will come back- but I am just in shock!-- it doesn't look like it is
going to let up til tomorrow afternoon and I just don't have a "place" to put
all the container plants- I have lots of my Veggies in them and am hoping some
will survive- Have stuffed the shed and the house with as much as I can -usually
I would shelter them in the carport or on the porch. The wind is whipping thru
the carport- and the porch becasue the fiberglas panels are coming off. I am
waiting for a neighbor to come hold a ladder for me in this wind so I can start to reattach some of them- dang those stinkers
are $15 each! Probably need to rethink that....Let's see briken leg... New
fiberglass panels.....Hmmm-This is going to be the kind of thing that is not
worth turning into home owners but is still gonna cost you.
My potting table was cleared off for the
first time in weeks this morning - My Rubbermaid box full of seed packets with
my 3x5 cards and the whole stupid filing system for seeds and my map of my
gardens and plants blew away-I Found packets of seeds all over the
neighborhood!Who knows what will wind up where. For those of you who are still in
late winter- you probably think I was stupid- and naive and unprepared and
maybe I was- but it NEVER does this here- even if it were to rain hard and
get a bit windy- things would stay put- Oh well- Just goes to show
.....Well I am not sure WHAT it goes to show- just a shock I think.
On a humorous note- there was a shot on the
news of a maintenance guy at the Sacramento International Airport with a
leaf blower trying to blow the leaves and he could barely stand up. LOL!Well- I
am keeping my eyeballs peeled on this 100 foot pine tree in my back yard-
it is very old and about half dead- and dropping branches like no
body's business. Funny- 46 MPH winds seems real different when it is
raining and the sun isn't shining. -Like a proper storm.- This is just
strange and ominous. -Kitty
