Square Foot Gardening List - http://myweb.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
I'm not sure if it's Garret Lindsay or Lindsay
Garret- but thanks for the encouragement. As Far as raspberries are concerned -
most people have them planted as barriers- around property- at least around
here. They are almost impossible to get rid of. At my last property I had some
mixed in with the grapes- -"volunteers" from the neighboring field and I
couldn't dig them out and keep them out no matter what I did. If you want
to plant raspberries- by all means have at it! But maybe your local nursery( not
garden center) could give you some good information on where to plant and how to
make the right kinds of trellis to train them on.Like grapes- now there are all
kinds of ways to train them - but I doubt that you would want to plunk one down
in your sq ft garden block. You'll want a strong support and to keep it away
from the beds. With all these savvy folks I am sure someone will come up
with a link to raising raspberries-.
Today wind was mild but it was hot. Have been
watering like crazy - all the plants in my back garden are in full sun and are
so dehydrated. I have some of this stuff called SUPERthrive and not to
advertise or anything but it is saving some of my half dead plants. It is
hormones and vitamins to help plants in stress when they are doing
transplanting- especially when they get too much wind or frost or
dehydrated.Got it at Walmart -it worked great on my seeds and transplants- So
have been dosing everything with it out of my watering can and
covering with my milk crates and whole beds covered with tomato cages
spread out that have wet bed sheets clothespinned, draped over and
between them. The veggies are gone -all but the strawberries and they look pretty
ragged- we shall see- hopefully they will survive. Having a heat wave after this
wind storm is not helpful.
I just keep misting the sheets and making sure that
the soakers stay dripping - I have been amazed at how much water the plants
are soaking up. I never knew how dehydrated the wind could make them. They
were all shriveled and some lost leaves and branches and now-
even though they are still all tattered and torn- they are starting coming
back around. Usually after they get to a certain point of dehydration - they are
gonners.Just have to wait.
If you know you have a storm coming - can you
pretect some of your plants? I hadnt a clue or I would have at least gone out
and covered some of my babies better.Probably the first time I haven't watched
the weather in two months.
Tell the neighbors to take down that trampoline!
And to think I was worried about my patio umbrella hopping the fence! Take
Care -Kitty
