Friends- Just finished adding another row of six by six timbers to one square foot bed. All soils are re-invigorated and ready for seeds and we wait patiently for spring to arrive... lol. In the mean time, thought you might like to hear what we have been doing while waiting for spring (see below topic.)

It's finally starting to warm up here, God willing.

Friends- A while back some of you responded to inquiries into plant selections for  a new trellis to be constructed. The trellis was to be placed so as to partially block the view of visitors as they round the corner of the house to our backyard. (the books say it adds interest to our garden.)

I include a copy of the url of a scanned drawing of the trellis:

The trellis is finished. We have three new clematis in: an Etoile Violette, a C. W. Dowman, and a Ernest Markham. The trellis is placed such that the sun reaches both sides but one side only for two or three hours. This side is stocked with shade plants.

The sunny side is facing into the backyard and features a J. P. Connell yellow rose (hard to come by), a Magic Carpet Spirea, Happy Returns daylilys, Palace Purple coral bells, and German Crannberry Ice Iris.

We intend to plant a Bishop's Hat 'Rubrum' ground cover which should cover up the yellowing leaves of the Daffodils and Tulips to come this fall. Apparently the Bishop's Hat crop failed and no one here will have any until later this summer.

What do you think?
Thanks for your past encouragement,
