Last year my Kentucky Wonder pole beans grew like gangbusters and
every seed came up. This year I switched to Blue Lake and am having
germination problems. I soaked the seeds overnight and stuck in about
thirty. I got about eight sprouts, four of which the critters ate. I
noticed when I planted them, and again now that I am reseeding, that
when I soak overnight only some of the beans swell. So I am thinking
that there might be something special about this variety - maybe
especially hard shells. So this time around I am leaving the
non-swelled beans in water until they swell. Every day or two a new
one swells and I take it outside.

Has anybody else had this happen? Am I taking a reasonable approach?
I've never heard of soaking beans for a whole week.
