Actually the idea of the gas isn't too bad!
I could take out all the good soil, burn the bottom of the 4x4 square then
cover it with plastic and replace the soil.  My only concern would be that
the soil that I would take out might still have some of the roots in it to
start anew.  I could always toss the old dirt and go get some new stuff.
Alot of work but it may be worth it.
