pepper and wildlife

Thanks for the idea on the pepper. The last week has been a scorcher. If I don't deep water every other day, the less established stuff is wilting. The pepper has a fruit, but looks horrid. I am cutting that baby off tonight, w/the flowers. In So Cal, I have all fall for bell peppers.

As far as wildlife, I have put up 2-3 foot chicken wire around my raised beds. It has kept the neighbors cat out, and it is deterring the roof rats from attacking my melon plants, for the most part. (BTW, melons are THRIVING in this heat). We don't let our dogs unsupervised in the garden area for many reasons. One of them will strip anything he can reach on the fruit trees, and the other tears up the plants to rebel the fact we've repossessed her yard.
