Hi All,
Sorry for posting this so late, but I lost the original message,
and the person who wanted the recipe for the whitefly spray, so I
don't know who to reply to, so I'm sending it to the whole list.
The Whitefly and Egg Spray is a Horticultural Oil/Alcohol Spray.
It is from page 258 of Rodale's Garden Problem Solver.
It kills insects (mostly whiteflies, but maybe flea beetles too)
on contact and smothers eggs and young.
Recipe(s): Mix 1 cup isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol, or
70% alcohol, at store)
with 1/2 teaspoon Volck oil
in one quart of water total; OR
4 cups (one quart) alcohol
3 quarts water
2 teaspoons Volck oil
Spray every one to two days until controlled. Saturate above and below
leaves and all plant parts.
The book doesn't say anything about this, but I would not spray on a
very hot day - the alcohol will burn. I usually spray in the late
evening just as the sun's going down.
I used this last year and saw nary a whitefly after 3 every other day
sprayings.
Good luck, and sorry again about the wait and the lack of social graces
on my part for not remembering who you are....:)
