Hello all. In reading the discussions on growing tomatoes in pots, I thought I'd share an idea I had for this purpose. This year I'm growing tomatoes in those jumbo-sized containers that scoopable cat litter comes in (after I used the litter, of course!!). These containers are great, they are sturdy plastic buckets, tall, with a tight-fitting lid and a handle (Tidy Cat is one brand). I spray painted the outsides and drilled holes in the bottom for drainage. I have three of these with a Burpee Bush Big Boy in each. They seem to be quite happy and are loaded with flowers. I leave them outside during the day, and bring them in when the nights are too chilly. I don't know if these buckets would be large enough for an indeterminate tomato, but it seems to work OK for bush types. Maybe some of you cat owners could try it. It's a great way to recycle those plastic buckets, they're too nice to throw away! Happy Gardening, Wendy Nibeck Maryland, zone 7 P.S. Thanks to all who responded to my question on how to freeze spinach. I will probably try it this weekend! *************************************************************************** To unsubscribe, send to: listserv@umslvma.umsl.edu the body message: unsubscribe sqft See http://www.umsl.edu/~silvest/garden/sqft.html for archive, FAQ and more.
