We miss you already!
I could buy that the seeds might grow unpredictable fruit, but no one ever
claims this. They always say what your second sentence indicates.
Do you know for sure that there were no soil or watering differences in
the locations? I have right now a habanero that is quite toasty and 6 feet
away one that is about at Jalepeno level. No sweet peppers near either
plant. The hot one does get about 2 hours more sun.
