Three to four weeks ago we had a fairly severe hail storm here and the top
of one of my tomato plants ("Better Boy") got severed off, leaving the
plant about 1 foot tall. I stopped pulling suckers off so that I could get
a new "main stem" started and the plant could continue to grow. I now have
2-3 good size suckers and I am going to trim all but one from the main
plant. My question is, what do I need to do to turn these large suckers
(6" long or more) into new tomato plants? I wasn't sure if I should stick
them in water (or vermiculite or an adjacent square) till roots grew or
what? Someone at church told me about something called "root-tone" (sp?)
that I can add to stimulate root growth? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,
