roundup

for a personal reason i spent some time in our science library researching
the chemical studies run on the active ingredient in roundup - glyphosate.
to paraphrase the results, it is reasonable to say that the active
ingredient and its residues are no more harmful to mammals in general than
any other chemical we encounter in daily life (naturally-occurring or
otherwise). however, i was left feeling uncomfortable about its effects on
soil life (worms, microbes and insects). it did report significant
mortality rates for these forms of life. it's my understanding that they
were saturating the soil with the product directly in their tests.

this is only a very brief summary of the results, and its based on my own
interpretation of the studies. since i was approaching the material as a
roundup skeptic, i hope i have represented a fair view of the work. your
decision of whether to use it or not should be decided based on primary
data...don't let someone else tell you whether it's safe or not!
