Re: Make your own "Miracle-Gro"

Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html

Encyclopedia Brittanica gives the following constituents of urine, in output
per day, typically per 1.5 liters...

Urea 25-30 grams
Uric acid .6-.7 g
Creatinine 1.0-1.2
Hippuric acid 0.7
Ammonia 0.7
Amino acids 3.0
Sodium 1-5
Potassium 2-4
Calcium 0.2-0.3
Magnesium 0.1
Chloride 7
Phosphate 1.7-2.5
Sulfate 1.8-2.5
Iron .003

This means urine is roughly 1% nitrogen, with important traces of other
things.

I'm doing some grass trials in my lawn with direct applications of full
strength urine, and lo and behold, it does make the grass green just like
the urea from Chemlawn....or Uncle Jerry's ammonia....:-)

A failsafe place for urine is in a brown-rich compost pile----all
constituents are gratefully metabolized by the microherd---make sure it is a
well aerated compost pile, since anaerobia is always to be avoided,
especially in an N-riched environment....

A trusty piece of rebar will allow you to make channels vertically every six
inches or so in the pile, which will keep those gasses exchanging between
pile central and the atmosphere....

I checked with my local public health authorities, and all were agreed that
in composting urine is completely safe....but I apply it modestly and using
opaque containers....no sense inviting the wrath of the badly toilet trained
down on yer heads......:-)

Frank---for understanding your pees, he has cues....:-)
