Hi Bill: I have raised Brussell Sprouts but not this fall got too late to get them in. I have had pretty good luck but no luck with Fall planting but no luck at all in Spring - too hot too fast I guess. Anyway, I always pinch off the top growth when the sprouts begin to size up. I keep off the old or yellow lower leaves but I believe it is the leaves that feed the sprouts so I save as many of those as possible. I could be wrong since I am no expert but they did seem to get larger faster after I pinched off the growing tip. No energy growing up I guess. Hope that helps some - I would be interested in hearing how other people are successful with Sprouts as I love them fresh from the garden and although It gets cold here, I had them coming most of the winter. They are wonderful and taste nothing like what you buy!
