Are you referring to the "single row" method?  I my first year i planted in
something resembling rows.  I had very little space to work with and WAY too
many tomato plants.  When i switched to square foot gardening, i found i was
better able to control how much i planted, and that weeding and maintenance
became *much* easier even though i now had twice as much land to work with.

Pay attention to the soil!  It's a very intensive method.  In my first year
with this method i tried to go on compost alone.  It didn't work.  (It also
didn't help that my friend in a neighboring plot warned me incessantly not
to overwater.  Of *course* i dried my plants out.)  The people on this list
who can garden w/o fertilizer are way beyond me in soil conditioning
techniques at this point.

Since you live in the northern hemisphere (you did say it's winter where you
are), you should locate your vertical frame on the north side of your garden
blocks to keep the frames from shading out your other vegetables.
