Hey now,
Be nice, we all come to sqft gardening for our own reasons. Just go
with sensible explainations and help Bernie grow as best we can. Who
knows, new knowledge comes from the edges and people at the community
garden think my little 4x4 squares are nuts.
Past posts have said French Intensive is better suited to large scale
growing. Sqft gives us small scale farmers/gardeners a lot of
convenience. The techniques are closely related.
Build the soil with what is available locally. Good soil needs much
less fertilizer/pesticide input and home grown compost can maintain
your needed fertility. As a gardener I enjoy eating food 'free' from
the back yard...spending a bundle of money each year on soil
amendments feels wrong.
Watering for sqft gardening follows basic conservation thinking. Here
in California I water frugally to save water, elsewhere folks do the
same to reduce weed growth. In your chaos world somebody will be hand
carrying the water and frugality will be easy to justify.
Open pollinated works just fine. Don't over analyse gardening. Go
buy the book and stop getting ALL your information from the web.
Now get out there and get your hands dirty. Even if the world doesn't
crash down around us you will have a healthier life.

trust this loose bean to program my toilet... Someone send him some
Plantain and Dandelion seeds.
