I never worried about them. Anything that comes up in a square that i
don't want there dies. The square foot garden is small enough so that
this doesn't take up too much effort. The close spacing in the square
foot garden also shades the soil, and new weeds won't thrive once the
vegetables grow large. Mulch helps.
