Black and white newsprint is considered OK for composting; shredding it a la
with an office shredder is best, I think.
Peat moss has excellent aeration and absorption properties, otherwise it is
not a very active participant in the composting process. I used to use it
for balcony composting; now I use leaves and wood chips which I can have
free in any quantities I want (I've had to learn to restrain myself.) :-)
If you are purchasing browns straw is an excellent choice, absorbent,
aerates well and decomposes nicely when mixed with greens and moistened.
With straw and wood chips one can compost a little more moistly and still
get good aeration...

Frank
