Square Foot Gardening List - http://www.flinet.com/~gallus/sqft.html
Hi Olin,
I liked your corn post, too!
You can use 1/4 inch hardware cloth also for finer material if desired. I
made up a special one with the cylinder descending into the can, where the
cylinder and screen were both 1/4 inch hardware cloth. This effectively
doubled the screening surface area, useful for 1/4 inch since the holes are
4 times smaller.
With the rejects, I usually take a few seconds to pull out any bits of
plastic or stones, then mostly put it back into the next batch of compost,
where it gets another opportunity to rot, and inoculates the next batch of
material with compost 'bugs'...:-)
I have also used it as mulch with success...
I don't usually reshred anything because of the worms, who in spite of their
fertilizer value as mortalities, I consider more valuable as vivalities (is
that a word? :-)
Frank
